Teen Sexting and Common High School/College Offenses

On Behalf of | Nov 7, 2017 | Criminal Defense

Teenagers, high school students, and college students do not always make
the most informed or thought-ahead of solutions. This is because oftentimes,
youth do not consider long-term consequences to their actions. In today’s
day and age, many teenagers are relying on technology as their primary
form of communication, whether that means sending an instant message,
text, or photo.

Many teens partake in sexting, which is the sending or forwarding of sexually
explicit photographs. This is often done without proper consent, or even
involving underage participants, who don’t realize their behavior
is illegal. In some cases, high school or college age students are charged
with child pornography crimes, because the subject in the photo is 17
or under. As you can imagine, this is an extremely serious charge if convicted,
and may last the entirety of one’s life if not curbed from the start.

Other common offenses many high school or college students partake in include,
but are not limited to:

  • Underage drinking, or drinking and driving
  • Drug use, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin, opioids, and more
  • Other sexual activity, particularly when one or both parties are underage
